Post converting text to postscript with encoding

Hi there,

To convert a text file to postscript format is easy with groff:
groff -Tps file >file.ps
But what if the input file is utf-8 (with non English characters in it)? How can you specify the encoding to groff or do you have to pipe the file through some other command?

TIA
