Convert to XFS?

Is it possible to convert a RedHat system to use XFS as its primary filesystem, or must it at least have ext3 for /. (newbie to Linux (from FreeBSD) here, be nice :) )

Yes, you can change it, but it's probably a good idea to do it at install, if you do, it with a current installation, it will wipe everything on your / partition.

Yes, I figured you'd need to do this at installation time -- however, XFS isn't provided as one of the filesystem options for RedHat.

I presume there is a way to hack the ISO installation to provide the right objectfiles/executables for XFS -- has someone done this, or is it with a different Linux distribution.

Thanks again.

actually, I use the fdisk utility from an old Slackware cd I prefer reiserfs). You could do it from within Redhat, but it gets nasty. (it deletes everything on that partition.)

There is a how-to for converting from one file system to another at http://www-124.ibm.com/developerworks/oss/jfs/
It's about JFS but the process is the same - except that you will make a XFS partition. Also have a look here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.p...hlight=reiser4
There are some people having issues with XFS.
