Question Convert jffs2 image to C source code

Hello,

I am trying to find a way to get/read the C source code from a JFFS2 image file. All I have is the jffs2 file and nothing else. I was looking for some kind of converter or reader that would allow me to do this. I know very little about Linux. I need to give the source code to a developer to save time on a new version/redevelopment of the original application.

Any help appreciated. I hope I have explained this properly.

Thanks

Unless I misunderstand, you need to mount the jffs2 file system and copy the source code file. To mount images, as opposed to actual devices, such as a flash drive formatted with jffs2, you need to use mount with -o loop.

i.e. mount -o loop jffs2imagefilename /media/mntpoint

Thanks mostlyharmless,

I have a copy of the file contents. It is a directory structure, the main file in which is a compiled application and not source code. I can read function names at the start and end of the main file and between them is binary data.

How do I see the rest?

Thanks

Well, if all you have is a compiled version, and you want source code, then you have an entirely different problem. In some cases, it would be illegal/unethical/probably against LQ rules to even talk about reverse engineering or decompiling, e.g. commercial software such as Microsoft Word. If it's "open source" why then, you have the source... Perhaps I've misunderstood what it is you have: could you be more concrete?
