convert image.png image.jpg changing colours

I have a dvd menu. It has yellow text ffe10d. In the png form everything is good. but as soon as I convert it to a jpeg or mpeg the yellow get's blended across the image. The ffe10d colour is nowhere to be found. This means my highlight button feature doesn't work as it can't find ffe10d for the transparent colour.

Why is convert and ffmpeg changing the colour?

Also I might add the image.png has 1 colour in it.

This has been driving me batty.

Jpeg uses lossy compression. Did you notice that your PNG file is much larger? Jpeg's are smaller but of course you have to pay a price. Try turning down the amount of compression. This can be done in Gimp.
