console font is giberish

i just installed Elive 0.4 and did an apt-get upgrade. now my console font is giberish, possibly some sort of *dings. i think Elive runs eterm, but i'm not sure.
anybody know how i can fix this?

I have this occasionally usually after a bad cat syntax or control+C to a program.. reboot usually fixes it for me.

but it only happens in non-ui terms not eterm or xterm.

try typing:

reset

thanks for the thoughts, but the problem still persists. it's strange, i can make out CAPS but lower case letters are just a bunch of strange shapes...
