Post console based messenger service


Is there anyway to get messenger in console
I tried both centericq and freeho
both give the same error ..."server closed socket"
gaim is working ..
my internet is connected using http proxy
I gave the proxy info in my bash_profile...
export http_proxy="http://xxxx:3128"
I don't think it is a proxy problem...
please help..
p.s. I use debian sarge .if at all this info needed

tmsnc is pretty good, I'm not sure about proxy support though.
