Connection to Internet with MEPIS

Ive recently installed Mepis. One or two problems, but I got there evetually.

Im trying to get Firefox to connect to the internet. It wont. I have no idea how to set up a network connection in linux, and my 1000-page manual only covers GNOME. Im using KDE.

With windows XP i connect via LAN/Router to a 2mb Broadband connection.

What do i do and where?

KPPP and PPTP and so on do not want to play with me.

Theyve find little or nothing, and my manual config doesnt work (connecting to MSHOME).

KPPP only find Eth0, but nothing beyond that.

I feel ive reached the 'break down and cry stage'.

KPPP and PPTP(never heard of that) and so on do not want to play with me.(they are for dial-up) Do you connect with ethernet(its a bigger plug than your phone plug)?
If yes what kind of card do you have?Can you get to the modems configuration page?Did you try using dhcp?
