Connection interrupted when signing into google

I am having trouble logging into to my igoogle/googlemail account. every time click onto the sign in link in firefox I get the error.

Code:
The connection was interrupted

The connection to www.google.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
          moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
          connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I can view all other websites fine and I can view my account using Konqueror (on my PC) or though the gmail App (on my phone) so I think this is an issue with FF.

My system:

Ubuntu 10.04
Firefox 3.6.11
connected to internet via ZTE MF112 Dongle

I have had this issue for a couple of weeks and it did not start until I got my 3 Dongle (before that I was connected via wifi on standard home ADSL).

I have tried turning off add ons (Greece monkey, flash block, no script and adblock+) as well as clearing my cache (before clearing my cache I could access iGoogle but not googlemail).

Since the problem only occurs in FF and not in Konq, and as it only happened since I have started using mobile Internet I think the problem lies with these to not playing nice. Some research has suggested that this might be due to a very slow upload speed.

I have also found I get the same error when logging into FB.

Have you tried to login directly without going through the www.google.com page? The link is here.
ciao,

I have the problem when logging in though that link as well as going though most other ways (I doubt I've checked them all)
