connecting to remote MySQL server

I cannot tell you how much frustration this will save me. So, if anyone can help with this, I'd be indebted.

SITUATION:
I currently created a LOCAL MySQL database (in WinXP), using PrimeSoft Navicat, which is a complete, very powerful GUI environment with which to create all MySQL files, access rights, import from a range of other databases, etc.

The database works perfectly on my Intranet.

PROBLEM:
I cannot FTP-it into the my Domain's MySQL directory that is hosted remotely.

I do not have Write Rights to the database folder created under the mysql folder, and - though I can see them and attempt to change them - the changes are not allowed.

QUESTION:
Has anyone managed to upload an existing MySQL database into their Domain that is hosted by a web host organisation?

ANY help would be most appreciated.
The prospect of keying in thousands of existing records manually is depressing.

Navicat is a million times better!

Hello angst6,

And thank you for your reply.

I use PrimeSoft Navicat which is a million times better, more power and easier to use GUI.

The problem is that the actual remote folder that contains the MySQL files does not give me the WRITE rights, and does not allow me to change them either.

So, I'm stuck.

I also discovered that the Remote Host uses mysql.sock (socket). So, the database users I set up, etc., I cannot use, because I cannot upload the MYSQL.* files that MySQL generates for database access.

Any ideas, I'll try, as it'll otherwise mean hundreds of dollards in a remote Web Host that's useless to me.

With many thanks in advance for any help,

Harris.
