Configuring Linneighborhood

Can someone who uses this application help me out with setting something up please? I am using FC5 on KDE desktop. I would greatly appreciate it.

Haven't used it in a long time. What is the issue.

Linneighborhood is kind of old. Not sure if being updated. Check out smb4k network browser.

The question is how do I use it, set things up...ETC?

24giovanni 11-15-2006 07:36 PM

Brian, Are you familiar with the one you recommended?

Hello again,

I also suggest you use SMB4k. It's much easier to use. It scans the network automatically. There's really no configuring.

Depending on install there may be some docs in /usr/share/doc/linneighborhood****
Been a while for it so no help to configure it. Don't really remeber doing anything to get it working.
SMB4K should work without much configuration other than changing the permissions on smbmount and smbumount commands. Doc explain what to do there.

EDIT: It's actually chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smbmount and chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smbumount

Here's more info on chmod and permissions.

I've only come across this permission problem once or twice in the past, I just used smb4k as root though, which is not advised but I like to live dangerously. :D

Ok, I'll try smbk4. If I have any questions on how to use it may I ask you guys please?

24giovanni 11-16-2006 06:18 PM

vxc69 or Brian, where do I type chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smbmount and chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smbumount

from. I tried from root but it didn't take?

24giovanni 11-16-2006 06:32 PM

Guys, could it be chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smb4k_mount and

chmod a+x,u+x /usr/bin/smb4k_mount

24giovanni 11-16-2006 06:34 PM

yes, that worked but what is that doing, where is smb4K located so I can put it on my GUI for a shortcut?

Brian1 11-16-2006 06:38 PM

My error on the commands. I use the following to set the sticky bit for both.
chmod +s /usr/bin/smbumount
chmod +s /usr/bin/smbmnt
