configuring irc:// links to open in xchat

With mirc for windows, it has a DDE server witch allows external applications to communicate with mirc. This allows Internet Explorer to send mirc information when a irc:// link is executed. If the link was irc://someserver.net/channel, mirc would start (if it wasn't going already) and connect to someserver.net and join #channel. I was wondering if I can do the same thing with konqueror and Xchat. I'm using konqueror 3.1.0 and Xchat 2.0.4.

Thanks for any help.
