Computer slow in response while playing Amarok

My notebook is using intel core 2 duo T6400 CPU and 2GB Ram,
when I am playing MP3 with Amarok and at the same time running Firefox, the computer tends to hang and slow in response to open new website.
IS it due to my hardware?

See "top" command output to check which process is hogging your CPU when that happens. Post it here so we can have some more info.

when I typed Top, a table appeared to show the applications running, but the listed items keep on changing.

As far as I can see from the results, no process is consuming much CPU resources. Maybe the situation you mention is variable and there is not always a high level of utilization.

Does this happen only with those applications opened? Watching some video on internet? A known software that consumes lot of CPU resources is the flashplayer plugin for Firefox. Try isolating the problem by opening few applications to see if the problem persists.

it just hanged when amarok and Seamonkey/firefox opened at the same time, when i tried to open webpages, the webpages do not open at once, and the browser color turns grey and does not respond to mouse click. It will hanged for 1-2 minutes, then back to normal, after a while, hanged again, during this time, the amarok still playing music and the sound is smooth and does not halt intermittently.
i not sure why? This happened on my notebook only, but not on my desktop where I install Ubuntu Ultimate, my notebooks is using MACubuntu, basically the same linux kernel.

Could it be Amarok is taking up bandwidth in the background, while retrieving lyrics, covers, wikipedia info ?

Kind regards

sometimes it does, but not all songs it recognised and retrieved data.
maybe macbuntu got defect???

TigerLinux 02-18-2011 08:50 AM

my notebook also can boot into Windows 7, in Win7, when I run IE/Firefox together with VLC/Windows Media Player , the computer does not hang.

repo 02-18-2011 09:56 AM

Does it happen also when you use another browser like opera, another musicplayer, like vlc?

Kind regards

TigerLinux 02-19-2011 06:48 AM

if I played music with VLC, it does not hang! :D
my amarok is 2.4.0, maybe it has problem?
