Computer loads windows bootloader, but not grub or lilo

BACKGROUND:
Ive installed linux on many computers and have never seen this

So i got a 'new' computer, from the trash. Tested the hardware. Works fine with new mem. and HD
Its a Gateway GX7022E Media Center Computer http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/GX...9/5429nv.shtml

I only have PATA drives. no SATA. So all tests have been done with PATA HDs

PROBLEM:
Computer seems not to detect lilo or GRUB bootloaders, but detects windows bootloader

After installing linux on a drive, i reboot, and BIOS says no bootable devices found. Ive tried both GRUB and lilo. Ive tested thoses drives in another computer. and they load up fine. Ive put a linux drive, i know works, in the computer, and it still says no bootable dev found. When i put a windows drive in, it loads fine.

Thanks,
ZyMOS

When you attempt to use the Linux loaders, do you have a (as in one only) partition marked as bootable/active ???. Not needed in Linux, but I've seen BIOS' that check for it.
Phoenix had a BIOS a little while back that would only boot with Vista, but that's not likely to be your problem here.
