Complete FC4 Lockup -- video veritcal bars

I have managed to see numerous hard crashes where the video display shows a pattern of repeating vertical bars -- maybe 20 of them. The system completely freezes. I can't Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and kill X. No mouse -- only a reboot will bring me back up. There seems to be no real correlation between the craches. Sometimes I am typing, sometimes scrolIing or stretching windows when it crashes. It never has locked up when I am not using GNOME. I really don't even know what information to provide. I have an AGP Trident graphics card.

Please let me know what information I can provide to help out fixing this. I am using FC4 with the latest standard yum uprades. I did have the "white screen" lockup when I did the first install, I but I was able to glean enough from the net to get past that.

BTW, I saw the same thing happen when trying another distro -- MEPIS I believe.

Try disabling hardware accelleration, if it is on. Adding options to the boot sequence ( in Debian I add vga=771 ) might also help
