compiling xorg, C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check

I get the following error when trying to compile X11R7.1:

configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
For one thing, I'm pretty sure there is no config.log. I'm using the build_from_tarballs.sh script. I do have all the gcc compilers installed so that's not the problem, I've compiled many many things before. Distro is slackware running a 2.6.19.1 kernel.

Why wouldn't there be a config.log? Look in the libXau-1.0.* directory for it and see what it says. The build_from_tarballs.sh script won't prevent the log from being created. However, the script doesn't apply all the patches you'll need for Xorg-7.1.

hey sorry your right, I had thought it deleted all the build directories after it was done. Here's the log:

Code:

running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

It was created by libXau configure 1.0.1, which was
generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59. Invocation command line was

This is your problem
Code:
/usr/include/bits/local_lim.h:36:26: linux/limits.h: No such file or directory
Either the file is missing, in the wrong place, or your INCLUDE_PATH is hosed.

The file limits.h is part of the Linux headers. These headers should either be provided by the kernel tarball or, as the kernel maintainers recommend, a set of sanitized headers preferably from your distro maintainer.

My INCLUDE_PATH had nothing set for it, so I fixed that and so far so good, thanks.
