Compiling/Running Java in Cygwin

I'm using Cygwin, but for some reason, I can't use either GCC or GCJ to convert .java files to .class files. Whenever I try to compile, about 30 compiler errors show up. It looks in my Windows Java repository (C:\Program Files\Java\jdkxxxx) instead of its own for the JDK, which makes since, I suppose. I don't have the JDK installed, so that's probably the answer.

The weirdest part, however, is that GIJ won't even run class files I've compiled in windows. It returns a no class error, as if the file didn't even exist. The Windows Java command works, and runs my classes, but GIJ throws a fit.

Any advice?
