compilation environmment

Hi,

Please, I need help with my PCI Planet WL-8305 card intallation on SimplyMepis 3.3.1-1.

I need to compile a driver but I found out that I don't even have the directory /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build in which, according to the driver installation guide, the kernel source resides.

I thought it is the case of missing kernel-source and headers. I decided to download the sources because I thought they would install in the right directories.
The stock kernel of Simply Mepis 3.3.1-1 is 2.6.10, but I couldn't find kernel-source-2.6.10, only 2.6.10 headers which I installed anyway. I, however, decided that just headers may not be enough to do the setup of the card in 2.6.10 (I read varied oppinions on this on the Net). I decided to do it in 2.6.11.6, because I was able to download all the packages that were needed (I think so…) from the apt.mepis.org repository.
I installed everything (including 2.6.11.6 kernel headers and kernel-source). The packages were .deb files.
Next I checked again under 2.6.11.6 if the ls /lib/modules/2.6.11.6/build/include directory is present but was again unsuccesful... I don't even have /lib/modules/2.6.11.6/build directory, only a link.

This is the listing from 'ls -l' command done in /lib/modules/2.6.11.6 directory:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2005-06-25 15:28 build -> /usr/src/linux-2.6.11.6

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2005-06-25 15:38 nvidia
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2005-06-25 15:39 pcmcia
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2005-06-25 15:28 source -> /usr/src/linux-2.6.11.6

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2005-06-25 15:39 wireless

I saw the links and I thought that the source is in the /usr/src so I checked the /usr/src/ but the linux-2.6.11.6 directory isn't there either:
