Compaq system recovery *grrrrrrrrr*

Hi finally found an OS which supports my sata controller, however as I found to my cost after installing fedora core 4 testing alongside windows xp. The PC decided that all wasn't well and compaqs own system recovery kicked in *whine*! I can't circumnavigate it and so although FC4 is still on the box compaqs software has reclaimed the MBR for windows only. In fact windows wouldn't even boot until it had the MBR back to itself so no FC4 64 bit. Can anyone explain how to resolve this?
I have thought maybe I have to resort to the windows bootloader, but i don't know how to use this as I have always used LILO. *stumped*

Regards Urquhartia

bloody compaq! *in my black book alongside Gates!*

Boot with a linux start-up disk or recovery cd. Mount your Fedora partition and re-run lilo. Why Compaq's recovery routine takes over is beyond me. Maybe something in the bios.
