compaq pcmcia ethernet card driver
I'm trying to install either gentoo or debian on my laptop, but it doenst matter because I can't find the right driver for my ethernet card. It's a Compaq iPAQ 10/100 pcmcia etthernet card. Thanks.

The exact model name would help. If you boot the Gentoo installation CD you should be able to to type cardctl ident and that would also be of use.

I think that the model is HNE-300.
cardctl ident gives me: Socket1: product info: "Cardbus PC Card", "Fast Ethernet Cardbus PC Card" manfid: 0x000, 0x021b function: 6 (network) thanks. |
What I'm trying to do is get eth0 to show up when I type "ifconfig" I've tried vector, debian, and gentoo, but I can't get them to detect my ethernet card properly.

anyone? HNE-300?

Try the Realtek 8139too driver. First make sure the core PCMCIA system is loaded and then type modprobe 8139too and carefully watch the output. If no error messages are printed, most likely the driver was successfully loaded. Then you only need to configure your network.
