command-line for sending email with attachment?

Hi there,

Very often I just need to put some files in a tar.gz and email them (actually to myself), so I create the tar file, open mozilla, attach the tar.gz file and finally send the email. Would it be possible to do all this with just with a couple of commands?

When trying to solve this issue, I found that with "pine" it is possible, but I've not this program and I cannot install it. Is there any solution using the "mail" command?

Thank you very much in advance...

mail command is used to read system mails.

I guess you're not your system administrator because you can't install pine. Isn't it???

Yes... I'm not root.

The problem is that I have not found a way to put an attached file with mail. I know I can make it to send a file (instead of STDIN), but only a text file which 'm not sure that I'ld be able to read afterwards...

Thank you for the reply :-)

Hi,

I think I found it. The command "shar" prepares files for being sent by email...

The weird thing is that I found it by writing "info mail". When I write "man mail" I get the documentation of "mail" :-/.

Thank you again...
