Command line 'dictionary' access command.

Is there a linux based command line program that will access and retrieve the meaning of the word from dictionary type service site such as www.dictionary.com ?

Have you Googled?
If this does not exist, it would make a fun project for shell-scripting. However, just bookmarking the dictionary site may be easier.....

I know you asked for command line and this is mildly OT, but for anyone interested in something to quickly look up words, you can just set your little search bar in firefox to dictionary.com. I use m-w.com, but to each his own.
