combining pdfs

I'm very enthusiastic on using gs for combining multiple pdf files. And I've actually found out how this is done, but I can't find what the options are for getting higher quality pdf's or compressing them, even though I've found articles referring to these options. Is there a way?

I'm not sure about using gs directly but using pdftk will probably be easier:
