codecs for mplayer post install
 

i read the README file for the essential codecs package for mplayer and it said to install them before mplayer. I had already installed mplayer so wanted to know if there was some config file i could play around with to get them working or if i would need to reinstall mplayer.

mplayer needs to know if codecs exist before it is compiled. so you'd need to install those codecs and then recompile it. you can see after the ./configure stage which codecs are being installed with mplayer
