Closing programs with console

Hello, I need to close a program that has crashed in Linux Suse 10.0.

I cannot restart as I have some faulty RAM that is being replaced soon - but thats another story the fact is I cannot restart.

How can I close this program - can I use konsole or any other means.

If I try and load up the same file again it just recognised that file is open therefore this is no help.

Most annoying problem.

Thanks anyone
John

You should be able to use konsole. If the program were called someprog:
Code:
kill -s 9 $(/sbin/pidof someprog)

i'm assuming the program name is impress. Then you'd need to run:
Code:
kill -s 9 $(/sbin/pidof impress)
