Clamav via Automatix error msg

I intalled the security suit from Automatix and it downloaded two apps: Clamav (virus scan), and Firestarter (firewall). The firewall so far seems to have installed properly, but clamav didn't. Now when I try to install or unistall apps using either synaptics or automatix I get these error msgs:
-------
FATAL ERROR: An apt based error occured and installation was unsucsessful'

E: clamav-base: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: clamav-freshclam: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
---------

So, all my download installs and uninstalls are some how impeded by clamav.

Automatix forum has no answers other than they say it is a known bug.

i too have had issues with installing both ClamAV and F-Prot for linux via package managers. just grab their raw source from the makers of the software and use their HOWTO for installing. works much better and is very easy to do.

Thanks, I will check it out. Maybe they will have an answer because right now I'm totally locked out of synaptics.
