Cisco VPN client and Redhat 9
 

Has anyone had any joy in getting Cisco's VPN client to work in Redhat 9?
If so any pointers that may help?

Wireless? If it is wireless let me know cause it is a twitchy process. I don't want to explain it if it is wired. However, I can explain that one too.;)

Not wireless just your standard 3com ethernet card...

But to give you some background.
I have the cisco vpn client working through my xp partition without any problems.
I've brought across the profile to my redhat install.
when i try to connect using ./vpn_client connect myvpnhost.mydomain.com i get the following message:

"Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 3.7 (Rel)
Copyright (C) 1998-2002 Cisco Systems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Client Type(s): Linux
Running on: Linux 2.4.20-18.9 #1 Thu May 29 06:54:41 EDT 2003 i686

Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno, h_errno or _res directly. Needs to be fixed.
Enter Certificate password:
Initializing the IPSec link.
Failed to establish a connection."

Any ideas/help would be much appreciated.

Couple Things
 

1. First there is something in the VPN client itself that could possible compiled/configured incorrectly becuase you are getting an error trying to access error reporting ????

2. Have you double checked all the connection scripts to make sure they are correct and that the values for your ethernet card are correct?

Question:
Did it work on a previous version of RedHat?

Suggestion:
recompile the RPM or intall from source

Was there ever a resolution to this problem. I have run into the same exact thing. One note, the CVPND is in Red like that is where the problem lies. Did you have any success?

I could'nt actually work out how to recompile it, as to me it just appeared to be an installation script.

All my connection scripts were also fine.

So I was rather extreme in my approach.... being that I ended up going back to Redhat 8 until I've heard of someone who has Redhat 9 and cvpn working correctly :)

If you work it out under Redhat 9 let me know what you did!

I have this working on RedHat 9, but the difference is I have VPN Client 4.0

Did you have to do anything speacial? I followed the directions to a the T! Hmmm!

It would seem that you VPN Client config file is setup differently than your VPN Server. Show me copies of both configs, and I should be able to sort it.

Well I took the plunge back into Redhat 9 again last night after seeing this post...
And 4.0 still did not work, i then managed to find a copy of 4.01 and it all works fine.

Where did you find it? On the website, I see no link for a version 4.1 or 4.0 client?

The link for client 4.0 is on post #7.
