Choppy DVD & movies playback

Hi folks,

when i play movies and DVDs the playback is choppy. it doesn't matter if i use Mplayer or XINE. the result is the same. so i guess is not the player, it is something else. that's the first time i have problem like this. so maybe i deleted a program or library or who knows what. so any help would be appreciated.

thanks a lot, the Shemeta.

dunno if this post will be helpful after so long, but perhaps for some of those people searching the forums for answers...

i did not follow up DrOzz's suggestions, but in case he did not say this:

you might want to try checking your Video driver. My playback was terrible, even with all of the DMA stuff and process priorities ok, until I realized my video driver was set to VESA. Once i set it to the correct driver, i got beautiful playback
