chntpw registry editor

i was playing around with chntpw and playing around with its registry editor

i can't find much documentation on how to use it

i was able to navigate to the entries i want to change but it seems it only shows the values for type dword or whatever

i can't see the value of reg_binary data

what i want to do it change the name of a value
or add a new value and edit its data

i can make a new value of type binary
but i can't edit its data

has anyone done any of this

i am trying to fix the registry for vista
but i can't use regedit in windows cause windows is screwed up
and i don't have the cd for windows

regardless of my problem i would like to get good at using chntpw

Diddling with the Windows registry when you don't have a way of re-installing sounds like a recipe for disaster. Is your Windows install not working at all? I believe there is a way of getting the Windows disk from the computer vendor.

I know nothing about chntpw, but a quick Google suggests that a lot of other people do.....

i have an image so i don't care if i screw up the registry
i also just finally got a vista cd ... made life so much easier

i have googled chntpw but just found basic stuff
or not enough to help me understand what i wanted to do (too basic or too advanced)

i only checked real quick
my problem is solved but later some time i would like to research more and learn chntpw
it is great to reset passwords but it seems it can do a whole lot more and i would just like to learn to fully utilize it
