Cheese video patchy with Internal Webcam on HP DV9000 w/ubuntu studio.

I have an HP DV9000 laptop with a built in webcam. All I want to do is be able to do video chats with friends in Kopete and record clips to youtube.

When I run lsusb it tells me:
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 0c45:62c0 Microdia

The webcam works with ekiga, though not kopete. So I think this is a software issue, not hardware.

When I run cheese (http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/gnome/cheese) The video is super jumpy. When I hit record it will capture a frame like 1 every 2 seconds. Also the sound won't record from the built in microphones.

I followed the FAQ on the website for cheese (http://live.gnome.org/Cheese/FAQ) and changed the properties of gstreamer to xvimagesink from ximagesink. It is still jumpy though.

When I run Cheese in the terminal I get this:
root@ubuntu:/home/rockgod# cheese
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169
Major opcode: 147
Minor opcode: 3
Resource id: 0x0

When I run camorama I get an error message that says "Could not connect to video device (/dev/video0) Please Check Connection.

In the terminal:

Some web cams are supported better than others. Unfortunately, I do not know of a site that rates compatibility and is up-to-date with the latest hardware and drivers.
