But not everybody "update" their libc+cc every day..maybe I said it without being sharp enough; I was actually thinking the kind of reinstalling (the reasons) people do with Windows when it's been working for a year or so and is getting wrecked from every corner without a visible reason, and more importantly, a working fix.

Doesn't SLES / OES come with YAST? If so, use it, should be a breeze then...
