Check harddisk


is there any unix command can check the harddisk bad sector and whether it is properly work or not ? thx.

There's also smartctl, which actually executes some on-board diagnostics that (I didn't know this, but...) every IDE hard-drive is equipped with. It can actually run diagnostics while the drive remains in-use!
