Chat program for RHEL 5 LAN

Dear Fellow Members,

At the office, we have a network which has RHEL5 as its Operating System. I wish to setup a chat program so that anybody on the network can chat with anybody. So please suggest me an ideal software

Also tell me the procedure to install and run it. I am still a newbie to the linux world

I suspect you'll find that the basic unix chat programs are already installed.
These are unlikely to be welcome by your users though - the trick is to set up a chat server.

If you use Jabber, you'll be able to set up an AIM-like chat server.

Please understand that it is unusual for people here to provide the kind of instruction you want where there are already pages and pages of information for newbies. Have a look at:

If you are new to linux and all...want open source software, but ease of use. I highly recommend Openfire.

It is another jabber server that has a nice relatively painless configuration interface.
