Change_passwd plugin for SquirrelMail does not change user account password

Hi there --

I have SquirrelMail version 1.4.10a-1.fc7 installed on our server, and I want to use the Change_passwd, version 4.0, plugin in order to allow our users to change their system passwords in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow files. The installation of the plugin was successful, and the option to change the user's password appears on the appropriate webpage.

The server has Sendmail 8.14.1 with MailScanner 4.64.3, SpamAssassin 3.2.4, and ClamAV 0.92.1 running on a Fedora Core 7 operating system with SELinux set to Permissive mode.

The problem is that even though the plugin says the user account password has been changed, in reality it has not been changed from its original. The chage -l <username> command confirms that the password has not been touched.

Has anyone seen this issue, and know what needs to be done to correct it? Thanks.
