change MPD output to recognized USB DAC

Hi

I have setup an ampache sound server and i am just loving it.

However I just added a new DAC that my system does recognize and will play music through (sound player in ubuntu and system sounds are now outputting to it just fine), but I cannot figure out how/where to specify that ampache/mpd use the DAC. ampache/mpd is still outputting the sound out of the soundcard line out successfully. i went into ubuntu's graphical sound config and turned off the soundcard and set the usb dac as default and hat seems to work fine for everything as I said.. except what i really want it to work on: ampache

(its a usb device: nuforce icon)

Using Ampache v 3.5.4
mpd 0.15.4
ubuntu 10.04 LTS

been pouring through docs/web for hours with no luck. theres no enough clear docs on mpd to figure this out. i don;t know how to configure an audio output that sends to this particular device.

thanks!

well i figured this out finally but i still dont understand the relationship between mpd, pulseaudio and alsa. I know mpd is the network daemon that can be used to control my music collection from a compatible client (ampache), and it LOOKS LIKE it plays to pulseaudio which is a plugin for alsa(??). but anyways... finally got this working, i had to install more pulseaudio supporting packages (device chooser) and it started working .. however...

Im getting choppy audio when using the usb dac. crackly etc... read through the pulse/asla docs and they suggest changing bitrate to 48000 if thats the issue. i also tried increasing audio buffers to no avail. I can have pulse use the normal soundcard out that i run through the same dac and it sounds fantastic , so im really hoping i can figure this out as going straight digital to the amp (nuforce icon) will be fantastic!

thanks!
