change MIME associativity in firefox

Hi guys,

After i did a synaptic update, the MIME type for ram apparantly got changed to associate to mplayer and worst of it... mplayer can't seem to play those live radio. awwww

May i know how to change back using realplayer as a default player for that MIME type.
(using realplayer10, firefox 1.0.6)

I tried editing the $home/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat
no luck :P prob cos its sys generated..

Thanks.

I guess that firefox uses the ~/.mime.types to associate an application to a file type. So try to edit that file to see if you get real player to play the .ram files.

Perhaps your firefox uses the global /etc/mime.types or wherever this file is in your distro. To find out which file it uses write in the address-bar:
Code:
about:config
and then in the filter field write "mime" to show you the settings about mime types.

ok indeed it is in /etc/mime.types. But i don't see any thing funny but only this entry

audio/x-pn-realaudio ram rm

isn't it already using my realaudio ? or does this means it is using mplayer.

Thanks

You can either go to: Firefox-->Preferences-->Downloads-->File Types and change the association for .ram files there (if it exists), or install this extension to be able to edit mime types to your like.

Wow the extension is really cool.. but even when i set it up, it doesn't work.... mplayer stills take control and stays embedded on my browser...

on the title bar of firefox i get (audio/x-pn-realaudio Object)
and i follow according added in audio/x-pn-realaudio , open with realplay but don't work
tried adding entry application/x-pn-audio, open with realplay also doesn't work..
even saving to disk also don't work.. I think this mplayer seems to trigger somewhere else... prehaps wrote onto realplayer file?

I even remove the extension, uninstall realplayer, reinstalled doesn't create any new entry too.

Sorry for the trouble.

Ahhh i realize something... when i execute realplayer from terminal, i went to the website and click for the click in firefox to play the media, it opens with mplayer embedded but my terminal shows that realplayer detects it

checking to see if we need to make a button
n->url=http://www.class95.sg/950.ram
url=http://www.class95.sg/950.ram
href=(null)

Its funny.. really funny... i wonder what mplayer changes..
