I realise this sort of question comes up quite a bit and I have read and tried a number of the solutions suggested with no real results. I have Samba 2.2.5 running on SuSE 8.1 acting as the PDC and file server for with a number of win2k machines. I would like the windows machines to be able to change permissions on the files that reside on the Samba share? How do I accomplish this? I have tried all sorts of configurations and right now I have everything set to 777 as follows: From smb.conf create mask = 0777 force create mode = 0777 force security mode = 0777 directory mask = 0777 force directory mode = 0777 force directory security mode = 0777 force unknown acl user = 0777 I had assumed that this would enable anyone to do just about anything. However, when I try to change a permission on a file or directory on the Samba share from the windows machines, I get an error saying I am unable to save permission changes. The idea was that there would be a public folder that was open and unrestricted (to and extent) and once I figured out how to deal with the permissions issue, I would start to tighten up the settings. Any ideas? |
