Centos 5.6 when I set dual monitors it crashed Xorg

I am having some real problems with my dual monitor setup in Centos 5.6.

I am trying to run 2 individual monitors like span say the whole desktop over 2 monitors say, using the Admin>Display (I think it's that menu, sorry working from MS Windows at the moment).

But everytime I set them up perfectly, every time as it requests you do reboot your computer once the changes have been comitted (written to presumably the xorg config file), the whole Window X Server? it crashes.

Any suggestions as to what to do? I am using an Nvidia Gefore 9600 GSO 768Mb RAM graphics card on it, using one DVI monitor and then an old CRT, but surely it should be the software or even the drivers that are causing the problem.

I mean I could just put up with having one monitor but it really bugs me, as I prefer to have one screen for my research and one screen for my production work so to speak.

Also I am running an AMD processor +4400 to be exact.

Any help is much appreciated,
Jeremy.

PS This will probably teach me allot about the server itself so it's not really a bad thing, if someone can assist me in getting this configuration working.

Question

Ok I found this in the /var/log/messages file:

Quote:
Jun 24 18:08:03 mynodename gdm[3469]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Jun 24 18:08:07 mynodename gdm[3491]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Jun 24 18:08:11 mynodename gdm[3510]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
Jun 24 18:08:11 mynodename gdm[3403]: deal_with_x_crashes: Running the XKeepsCrashing script
Going to go around on the web and google those, is there anyone that has an idea of what these mean though?

I mean my suspicions are it's the default driver for my graphics card, but I am not exactly sure, since I don't know what to do.

Any help is again much appreciated,
Jeremy.

Actually for some weird reason that card quite literally blew up lol.

Going to try Linux on my new Gefore GTS 450 1GB PNY card, it's a heavy based unit so should be interesting to see if this works at all.

Will give my new graphics card a go tonight.

Yes my old 9600 GSO 768 gave up and died, literally nearly caught fire lol.

Thanks for all your help,
Jeremy.
