Do I need to pay to download Cedega? I would like to get it to install SWG but the only download I found was at transgaming and it is prompting me to sign up and subscribe for a monthly fee.
Yes. WineX, and now Cedega, has always wanted you to subscribe to download the full version. Last time I subscribed it was $5 for one month, I considered it to be a good investment. There is a CVS/unsupported version - but it's a pain to get going.
Nope, you can download Cedega freely from CVS. At Frank's Corner you will find a tutorial about how to do that. And also there, on the download section, you can get an older, non-official, WineX3.x rpm.
I highly recommend you to purchase Cedega though. It's cheap, it works, you get support and forum access, besides pre-compiled binaries
look i have Cedega...
:P
It isn't from the CVS depository...
It's a torrent and a .tar.gz file so feel free to download it from my page: cedega-4.0-1 cedega-4.0-1 torrent
The idea of paying the small amount of money to transgaming is so they can develope the software further. It's not nice to distribute it like this. Beside that, what assurance is there that these files are not a clever way to introduce a linux worm, hmm.
Crko, isn't that illegal? WineX is commercial and you're not allowed to offer publicly winex rpms to non-subscribers. And is binary posting allowed at all?
Yes, of course it's illegal and he knows it... It's likely that somebody will report this to transgaming, so removing the files would be a good idea... A moderator will also be on to it in the very near future...
You can get these on P2P as well, but it's naughty and does nothing for the project. We're talking $15 here... I actually paid $30 and will pay again.
Yep, I know. But the moderators are likely to frown on that one... I'm willing to bet it's out there on gnutella or something if he wants it that bad and doesn't mind the risks... So no point getting yourself in trouble.
I just see a certain program we've been discussing is on the gnutella network, which isn't a surprise. I figured it would be, but I still paid for it as I think it's a 'good thing'. Tho I only play a couple of games.
Anyway mate, it's 3am here in Oz and I am going to bed now
