cdrecord knowing in advance whether iso image would fit onto optical medium.

Cdrecord-Pro-DVD 2.01.01a23 etcetera.

If I burn an iso image onto an optical medium, the answer to the question of whether the image will fit onto the medium will depend on image size as well as the set of arguments passed on to cdrecord (e.g., CD-ROM mode 1 format allocates only 2048 bytes of user data per block).

Therefore, it would be a good thing if cdrecord either had an option to determine this beforehand or, at least, would stop execution before actually beginning to burn.

My question is: has cdrecord such an option? Thanks for reading and my deeper apology for not reading the manual through and through. Regards.

In cdrecord man page, under option -overburn I read the following.

Some drives do not allow to overburn as much as you might like and limit the size of a CD to e.g. 76 minutes. This problem may be circumvented by writing the CD in RAW mode because this way the drive has no chance to find the size before starting to burn. There is no guarantee that your drive supports overburning at all. Make a test to check if your drive implements the feature.

This immediately suggests make cdrecord run with the laser turned off ("Make a test to check". Which of course, can be made in that way). And, of course, also that the drive controller
usually knows the size in advance and, therefore, common sense dictates it must notify the software in case he doesn't like that size.

Notwithstanding, I'd very much like seeing last post answered. Regards.
