cdparanoia: how to log?

I really don't want to watch those smilies for the whole ripping process so I wanted to create some log, but can't figure out how. Why does the ">>" operator not work? When I try this:

cdparanoia -d /dev/cdrom 1-1:[10] /mnt/skupna/test.wav >> /mnt/skupna/test.log

it still displays everything to the screen and creates just an empty log file. With -e switch I get a lot more info, but still just on the screen and nothing to the log file.

I have this version, which is also the last stable one:
cdparanoia III release 9.8 (March 23, 2001)

My final goal is to put appropriate command line options to grip and at the end I'd just check out the log. Or maybe I would even put a script to execute afer the whole disk was ripped to check if there are any bad smilies in the log file.

Is there any other nice gui for ripping & encoding? It has to tell at least at which tracks did errors occur (like CDex does), and preferably also what are the suspicious positions (like EAC does).

grip rocks. if it's not in grip, pretend you don't need it!

that log file... it's possibly printing to the standard error stream, not standard out, so try adding 2>&1 to the end of the command to ensure that it's copying both streams

You are right, it's printing to stderr, that 2>&1 fixed it.
Unfortunately I still have no use of the file. It seems that during operation it continuously rewrites the line with the smilies and I don't get a single useful line in the log file, just unimportant stuff.

I just downloaded the source, gonna delete that damn \r sequences and try to compile. I just don't get it, the ONLY thing that's really important to know after ripping is this info. Why didn't the developers put to stdout just the positions with suspected errors or something like that? Who has time to watch the damn smilies all the time???

I missed those characters (- + e X * ! V) that DO tell you something about suspicious positions. Not as precise as EAC, but it is something

I changed the output for the status bar to stdout so I can easily pipe or redirect just this. From bash this works fine:
cdparanoia -d /dev/cdrom 11-11:[5] /mnt/skupna/test.wav | grep V > /mnt/skupna/test.log
and I get a non-empty log file if a serious error occured. But if I use this in GRIP I get no log file at all. Looks like grip is the problem now
