Cd rom problem during installation of red hat 9

Hi, this is my first post and therefore i am a nb.
Before asking i would like 2 compliment all the people who help others. Thanks really.

The problem that i am experiencing is that when i try to install red hat 9.0 on a windows 98 machine, linux doesnt find my cd rom.

I am trying 2 install red hat 9.0 on a pentium 2, 6gb hd, windows 98, 2 scsi cd rom(one is a tdk burner) and the installation goes fine until it asks for the type, i select cdrom but it doesn't find any. I know both drives and cds work under windows, and i also tried using the command linux hdd=cdrom but it doesnt' seem to help.

Thanks in advance 4 ur responses.

Andrea.

hdx drives are for IDE...I am pretty sure sdx drives are scsi just try /dev/scd0
/dev/scd1 /dev/scd2 and so on...It is most likely related to the SCSI id of your drive.

Also it is probably necessary to type /dev/ rather than just hdd as you posted

IDE discs (HDD and CD-ROMs) are labelled as hdx, x usually is a letter, beginning from a up to the last device found (if you have 2 HD and 2 CDs, the you will have /dev/hda /dev/hdb /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd).
SCSI disc are labelled diferent, basically /dev/scdx, x meaning a number, also depending on how many devices you have. Once more, if all your devices ara SCSI, they will be labeled as /dv/scd0 /dev/scd1 /dev/scd2 and /dev/scd3.

Now, instead of putting hdd=cdrom, try to put /dev/scdx = cdrom (replace x with the appropiate number) and try to install again.

Hope it helps
