CD Drives doesn't mount by themselves.

hi,

I'm new to Linux. I've Mandrake 8.1.

My CD-drives[ 2 - CDROM & CDRW ] doesn't get mounted by themselves. They're work fine if I use kwikdisk but I would like them to get mouted automatically.

This was my fstab file...
[root]# cat fstab.0331
/dev/hda9 / ext2 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,exec,codepage=850,ro,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto user,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,sync,exec,codepage=850,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda10 swap swap defaults 0 0

and this is after giving supermount -i enable...

[root]# cat /etc/fstab
/dev/hda9 / ext2 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=auto,dev=/dev/hdc,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,nosuid,exec,ro,noauto,codepage=850,nodev 0 0
/mnt/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 supermount fs=auto,dev=/dev/scd0,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,nosuid,exec,ro,noauto,nodev,codepage=850 0 0
/mnt/floppy /mnt/floppy supermount fs=auto,dev=/dev/fd0,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,nosuid,exec,noauto,nodev,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda10 swap swap defaults 0 0

Even after giving this the drive's content is null.
ls /mnt/cdrom turns out to be blank.

Can someone tell me as what is causing the drives to not get mounted automatically. I do try to mount with (mp3)CD's in the drive.

thanks.
shankar.

After having given supermount -i enable I tried to access the drive( even after restarting the box - which is not at all required in Linux, but still ... ) it didn't show anything...

As root, I try to run kwikdisk and now it is reporing an error...

Called : mount -t supermount /mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom -o fs=auto, dev=/dev/hdc, iocharset=iso8859-1, umask=0, nosuid, exec, ro, noauto, codepage=850, nodev

mount : wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /mnt/cdrom, or too many mounted file systems.

what does this mean ?

thanks.
shankar.

Hi

I think I would be right in stating that Mandrake 8.1 doesnt support supermount, something to do with an issue with the kernel.

If you want it, 8.2 does support it, so I would recommend downloading that.

Hope it helps
