CD Copying

I have a data disc that I'm trying to backup and am unable to do so. The company from whom I purchased the software told me that they put in copy control and that I am not allowed to do so... I want a backup anyway.

When I try to make copies with K3B I get read errors that prevent it from being copied. Is there a way I can just do a raw blanket copy of the disc with a simple utility that won't freak out because of what I assume are purposely introduced errors?

Tried dd already? Umount the disc, for example with
umount /dev/cdrom
and then start copying with
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/jon23d/cdimage
and when it finishes, you should have a one-to-one copy of the disc saved as /home/jon23d/cdimage file. Of course if your cd/dvd device isn't /dev/cdrom, change that above, and the outfile too.

Hmmm.. It crapped out at about the same place that K3B did...

jon23d@jonnyd:/media/cdrom$ dd if=/dev/hdd of=/home/jon23d/cdimage
dd: reading `/dev/hdd': Input/output error
11456+0 records in
11456+0 records out

This disk is not meant to be copied: It is formatted in such a way that it cannot be copied, even with dd.
We are not supposed to help you copy this disk: Please see LQ Rules. Sorry.
