Lightbulb CatchAll Email System

Hi All! This is me, Delwin, from Sunny South Africa. 22 and new to the linux/unix environment - but I'm hooked. Our company writes and provides support for linux/unix security software.

I'm working on a server that is complete...except for one more piece, and all I need is a point in the right direction. I've setup a mail server, using Postfix, and it works well, our mail is retrieved from a pop mail server using fetchmail and delivered to the users on the system.

So I'm happy, but I want MORE! fetchmail polls the server many times, once for each user, I dont want this as its alot of overhead, I just dont want multiple logins.

I have set up the mail server that all mail sent to ANY user ends up in one mail box. I want a program, fetchmail or sumting else, so pull ALL this mail from this one mailbox, and then distribute it locally according to the user it was sent to. Therefore our local system does the sorting, not the pop mail server.

PLEASE!!!! any suggestions? I KNOW its possible, mainly because anything is possible in unxi - lol

Much Appreciated,
Delwin

Fetchmail will do this itself in multi-drop mode - see man fetchmail.

Be a bit careful with this, as I gather it does have limitations (I recall that mailling lists can be problematic).

I'd als opoint out that catch-all accounts can be problematic. Having just gone through a backscatter storm (where a spammer spoofed my domain, meaning I got thousands of "no such user" rejected emails, all such messages would swamp your account, as the server wouldn't be able to reject them.
