Capture / Edit Solution

I have an Ubuntu 6.10 box I need to set up for multi-media. It will be used to capture composite video (for now). I need to be able to save the file in mpeg-4, and be able to edit the captured file.

I have tried to use vlc for capturing, but get distorted video. I have also tried to install cinelerra, but it fails because of dependency and version problems.

The solution needs to be controlled via a GUI. the command line solutions are a bit much for me at this time.

Thanks in advance.

Raymond

Check out, xawtv, kdetv, zapping, motv. You might at best be able to save the file in mpeg2 or avi format.
From there you can use cinelerra or avidemux, openmovieeditor, etc, to edit it.
Then you'll have to encode it to mpeg4 with like mpeg4ip, gmerlin, kvideocodec, etc.
