caps lock light keeps getting out of sync with capslock status

how do i rectify this problem, a clunky method that works for me is to type exit at the prompt, hit the capslock key, then hit enter to logout, but perhaps there is a more ellogant way to solve this? perhaps echoing a value to a location to set the status of the capslock light?

what causes this to happen anyways?
