Can anybody tell me how do i configure the Scroll button on my Linux Desktop?

That depends on a lot of factors:
Which distro you're using;
Which desktop environment you're using (gnome, kde);
Which wm you're using;
The mouse model (which you've already answered).
The behavior you want (answered too).

What i want to happen is that when I click the Scroll button, Auto Scroll mode should be activated.

Let me get this straight: `click the scroll button' means `clicking the scroll wheel', right? And Auto Scroll Mode is where a small icon appears and the (whatever) scrolls according to the cursor position relative to that icon (i.e. move the cursur up => scroll up); correct?
Auto Scroll Mode is application specific behavior--but some effort has been put into making the gnome applications all act the same (well, be coherent at least). So don't be surprised if there's an app or two that won't play along.
Also, what's the behavior of the scroll button now? Which button number does it have?
