Post Can't run applet in Firefox - openSuse 12 64 bit

Hello,

I am looking for insight (or references ) on how to get Firefox to display applet in OpenSuse 12.1, 64 bit. Right now whenever a page has an applet tag...only get a message that says the applet tag is ignored. I have Googled Firefox, and Oracle. Have not found (yet) a solution. Thanks for any insight.

You are running a 64 bit system. If the problamatic applet is 32 bit, AND if the applet requires 32 bit libraries on you system, it won't run. You would need the necessary 32 bit libraries installed in parallel to your 64 bit libraries.

I don't have a clue how to go about discovering which libraries you need, nor do I know how to install 32 bit libs in parallel to 64 bit.

Hello,

Opensuse has some default install open java implementation (open-Java), which includes IceTea, this is the plugin to run applets on FireFox.

However, sometimes, you would need the Oracle java (which i have =( ). The steps are (pretty much is the same as the links that i'm providing):
1. download java instaler
2. unzip the installer (if you go for the packed) or run the RPM
3. provide a Path
4. removed the Iced-tea plugin
5. add the Java plugin into Firefox
6. start firefox
7. finally, pray =D

I just performed those steps and my applets are running as should. I'll give you some links that may be helpful:

and to add to all this confusion
the default firefox on the 64 bit opensuse 12 is the 32 bit firefox needing the plugin wrapper
and using the 32 bit plugins

now if you are using the custom 64 bit firefox ( like i am )
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla..../linux-x86_64/

then you need to remove the 32 bit plugin wrapper
