cant login root after kde 3.4 update
does any one know how to enable root logins throught the kde login screen?,,, error "root logins are not allowed"
and also how to change the backround of the login screen, i try changeing it thiourh control center but it doesnt take effect when i logout.

It sounds like you only did a partial update to KDE 3.4. Check to make sure that you installed all of the dependencies.

i installed all the packages of the kde 3.4 update.
i used one of the suse mirror sites

This happened to me also when I upgraded kde on a FC3 box. Normally, fc3 uses the gdm instead of kdm but installing the new version of kde changed that in /etc/sysconfig/desktop....
Used to look like this.......
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER=GDM
But the kde upgrade changed it to this ....
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER=KDM
I just switched it back to gdm but if you still want to use kdm, then check this file....
/etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc
and look for lines like this: AllowRootLogin=false
change them to this: AllowRootLogin=true

ill try that, but the folders that u seem to provide are non existant on my distro..lol
they are probly in a different directory
that did the trick i found the file in another area, chnaged it, and works fine.. thanks alot
do u no the problem of the backround?.....unchangeable

On FC3 there is a command: gdmsetup as well as
Control Center / System Administration / Login Manager

i tried gdm and it was basic, just a gray screen and 2 text imput boxes ..user name and pass, i could only login to fvwm
i chnaged it back to kdm, i dont no y that blue wave backround wont change to one i set in control panel, ive tried changeing it several times.

well i was able to finsih. thnkas alot,
anyone wondering ..
root error was:
/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm
edit kdmrc
AllowRootLogin=false
change this to
AllowRooLogin=true
backround
/opt/kde3/share/wallpapers/
rename the default_blue.jpg
find the new backround and
rename it default_blue.jpg
(i couldnt find the file where it was causeing the error, so i just chnaged this around it.)
