Cant boot into GUI

I just installed redhat 7.2, but it wont boot into the GUI. It will go right to the text logon then give me the command line. I have tried startx and xf86config, but I still cant get startx to work. When I try startx, it gives me an error that says "server error: 0screens found." During my most recent atempt at using xf86config, as root, it gave me an error that said "cannot access the file to write" which doesnt make sense to me since I was root.

I have an older monitor...a Dell V15x made in 1994. It works perfectly in windows 98SE at 800x600. I also have an ATI Radeon 8500 64 mb, also works perfectly in windows.

Thanks you,

try Xconfigurator and see if you can't configure X that way.

I just tried the Xconfigurator, tried all of the radeon settings with my monitor, tried to use the lowest resolution/color settings but it still says that there is a problem with my configuration. I just tried multiple custom monitor settings as well.

nothing is working

It can be a problem about your graphic card too.
in Xconfig, make sure you pick up the right one. Do not take a graphic card close to your, it will not work.
